As a Mechanical Systems Simulation Engineer on the Ample team, you will work on cutting-edge battery and robotic systems for mass production. Our ideal candidate loves solving challenging problems for real-world applications. You will work in close collaboration with mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, thermal, and test engineers towards the design and development of the next battery modules and charging/swapping systems. What You'll Do: Multi-body system modeling for modal, static, transient, fatigue, explicit, crash simulation Hyper-elastic material, sheet metal modeling for explicit, crash, and crush simulation Provide static and transient structural safety assessment and design improvement direction Conduct durability evaluations based on modal, vibration, impact & fatigue Evaluate safety under crash & crush events (LS-Dyna, explicit simulation) Help guide experimental validation and testing from simulation results What You'll Bring: Minimum of 3 years industrial or academic work experience with structural / durability / crash simulations Strong technical and theoretical background in structure, material, fatigue, crash Master's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, physics, chemistry, or electrical engineering, PhD Experience with 3D simulation software: Ansys suite (Mechanical, LS-Dyna), Star-CCM+, COMSOL multi-physics, etc. Bonus Skills: Experience with electrical modeling of battery packs, modules, and cells (ECM, ROM, MSMD) is a plus Experience with thermal modeling of battery packs, modules, and cells (Cooling/Heating, Air/Liquid/PCM) is a plus Experience running simulation cases in an HPC multi-core cluster environment Experience on complicated system simulation with several hundred parts or more (contact condition, conformal mesh) Proficiency in Python, C programming Expertise in modeling assemblies and modules in tight tolerance We are an equal opportunity and E-verified employer and value diversity at our company.
