Position Summary

GTI Fabrication is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of prefabricated steel enclosures and modular systems. This role involves using SolidWorks and AutoCAD daily to create technical drawings, perform analysis, and collaborate with engineers and production teams to bring engineered-to-order solutions to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical design drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Perform CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and thermal analysis on container-based HVAC systems.
  • Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) on steel weldment structures and custom metal assemblies.
  • Interpret engineer markups to modify technical schematics and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and adherence to specifications.
  • Apply knowledge of ISO container construction, sheet metal, and modular fabrication methods.
  • Support project deliverables on time, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Uphold punctuality and maintain compliance with GTI safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a technical school or vocational program.
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical design or drafting.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and familiarity with BIM platforms.
  • Experience with sheet metal, weldments, and metal framing.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with modular or prefabricated construction methods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Exposure to containerized systems or heavy-gauge metal fabrication.

Work Environment

  • Office-based with occasional travel to production floor and project sites (up to 10%).
  • Daily tasks require extended periods at a desk using CAD software.
  • May need to walk through an active warehouse with heavy machinery and equipment (PPE required).
