About the Job
As a Mechanical Engineer II, you’ll take ownership of full components and subassemblies within our engineered systems. You’ll contribute to the full product lifecycle—from early concepting and prototyping to testing and release—ensuring your work is manufacturable, maintainable, and field-ready. You’ll support product development through thoughtful design, hands-on iteration, and clear documentation while collaborating closely with other engineers and team leads.
Who You Are
You’re a motivated individual contributor with a solid mechanical foundation and a track record of contributing meaningfully to product development. With 1–3 years of experience, you’ve supported products through key development stages and have a growing confidence in managing complexity. You’re comfortable working in CAD, debugging in the shop, and communicating across disciplines. You think practically, iterate quickly, and bring consistency to your design work. You’re collaborative, curious, resourceful, and not above triple-checking a BOM or grabbing a wrench if that’s what it takes to ship excellent work. Motivated by technical quality and continuous improvement, you’re ready to step into greater responsibility within a collaborative engineering team.
What You’ll Be Doing
Design + Build: Research, design, prototype, validate, and test mechanical systems and components for renewable power systems and ruggedized gear
Document + Communicate: Produce solid technical documentation—CAD models, assembly drawings, BOMs, test plans
Improve + Iterate: Look at our existing products and find ways to make them better, simpler, cheaper, tougher, easier to build, or all of the above
Own Subsystems: Design and manage subassemblies within larger projects, balancing performance, environmental, and manufacturability constraints
Prototype + Test: Build and test parts using shop tools, and refine based on real-world results
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with electrical, production, and supply chain teams to ensure your designs succeed in practice
Peer Engagement: Participate in design reviews and offer support to ME I teammates through collaborative work
Solve + Document: Troubleshoot problems, implement design fixes, and ensure clear records of changes and reasoning
Travel: While this role is primarily on-site, occasional travel—up to 25%—may be required to support fieldwork, training, or cross-site collaboration
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support departmental and organizational goals
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field from (or pending graduation) from an ABET accredited institution
Experience: 2-4 years of experience in a mechanical engineering role in a manufacturing or product development environment
Skills:
Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD platform for 3D modeling and drawing creation
Fluency with Microsoft Office 365 for Business
Ability to build and test prototypes using hand tools and standard shop equipment
Ability to manage BOMs, drawings, and revision control
Ability to interpret customer specs and translate them into manufacturable designs
Ability to write and execute test plans with clear documentation
Analytical and data-driven decision making framework
Strong verbal and written communication, especially when collaborating cross-functionally
Self-directed with a collaborative mindset
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Experience designing power systems or ruggedized hardware
Familiarity with thermals, sealing, and weatherproofing
Exposure to standards like UL, NEC, IEC, or military specs
Curiosity about EMI/RFI design considerations
Experience with 3D printing, shop tools, or makerspace projects in prototyping workflows
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds independently.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to lift and move items exceeding 50 pounds when necessary.
Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise and temperature variations.
