Position Summary :
The M365 Technical Engineer is responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of the organization's Microsoft 365 environment. This role ensures the continued reliability and effective use of Microsoft 365 applications, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and security/compliance tools. The M365 Technical Engineer proactively monitors performance, implements best practices, and recommends enhancements that improve productivity, strengthen security, and align with the organization's compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Administration & Maintenance Manage daily operations of Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Intune Monitor system performance and resolve issues to ensure availability and reliability Maintain user accounts, security groups, and distribution lists in Microsoft Entra and M365 Optimization & Enhancement Evaluate current M365 configurations and recommend improvements to increase performance and usability Implement automation and configuration updates that enhance user experience and IT efficiency Support the rollout of new M365 features and functionality across the organization Security & Compliance Configure and monitor M365 security features, including Conditional Access, MFA, DLP, and compliance center policies Partner with the Cybersecurity & Compliance Specialist to enforce organizational security standards Stay current on Microsoft 365 security advisories, patches, and regulatory requirements to recommend proactive measures Support & Escalation Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point for M365-related issues Provide technical expertise to IT staff and leadership regarding M365 functionality Create and maintain documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles for staff training and support Project Involvement Participate in IT projects involving M365 integration, migrations, and upgrades Provide technical input during vendor evaluations and contract renewals for related services Collaborate with Infrastructure, Operations, and Area IT Technicians to ensure smooth deployments Qualifications
Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred 5+ years of IT experience with at least 3 years dedicated to Microsoft 365 administration and engineering Strong experience with Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Intune Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to healthcare or senior living environments (e.g., HIPAA) Skills & Competencies Expertise with Microsoft Entra, Conditional Access, and M365 Security & Compliance Center Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in enterprise environments Ability to translate technical concepts into user-friendly communication Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation for M365 management a plus Strong documentation and organizational skills Commitment to ongoing professional development in Microsoft technologies
