The Professional Civil Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, and oversight of telecom infrastructure projects including fiber optic networks, small cell deployments, conduit systems, utility poles, and related site development. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while delivering structurally sound, cost-effective designs for both aerial and underground installations. The ideal candidate will hold an active Civil Professional Engineer (PE) license and bring expertise in telecom-related construction; an Electrical Engineer license is a plus. This position plays a critical role in coordinating with internal teams, municipal agencies, and external contractors to ensure timely and accurate project execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and review civil plans for telecommunications infrastructure such as underground conduit, manholes, aerial pole routes, and equipment pads.
Provide engineering approval (PE stamp) for plans, drawings, and permit submissions as required by regulatory authorities.
Perform structural analysis for utility poles, foundations, and supporting infrastructure for telecom and wireless equipment ensuring applicable codes (e.g., TIA-222 for towers, local building codes).
Collaborate with permitting agencies, zoning boards, and utility companies to ensure designs comply with applicable codes and right-of-way requirements.
Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation for fiber optic network builds, small cell sites, and distributed antenna systems (DAS).
Conduct site visits to evaluate field conditions, validate designs, and ensure construction feasibility.
Provide engineering expertise during construction, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing site inspections
Coordinate with internal departments (OSP Design, Construction, Project Management) to align civil engineering designs with telecom deployment plans.
Evaluate environmental impacts and implement mitigation strategies in compliance with regulations.
Oversee vendor and subcontractor activities to ensure adherence to engineering requirements and quality standards.
Support the permitting team with technical clarification on active submissions. Maintain project records, calculations, and drawing logs for compliance.
Provide weekly status updates to engineering leadership. Monitor and address any bottlenecks in permit design cycles
Support budgeting and cost analysis for civil components of telecom projects.
Maintain knowledge of telecom infrastructure trends, local ordinances, and emerging technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
Active Civil Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of employment (Florida preferred)
Minimum 5+ years of civil engineering experience, with at least 3 years in telecommunications or utility design
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and design tools for fiber and utility infrastructure
Strong knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and permitting processes
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
Preferred Qualifications:
Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience with structural pole loading software (e.g., O-Calc, SPIDA)
Knowledge of wireless site design, including small cell and DAS solutions
Experience with permitting for telecom and utility projects
Knowledge of DAS, small cells, and wireless infrastructure. Familiarity with DOT, railroad permitting workflows
