Overview & Responsibilities
Elliott Group (Ebara Elliott Energy) is a world-renowned, 100+ year old global manufacturer of rotating equipment/turbomachinery that is based in Jeannette, PA (45 minutes east of Pittsburgh). We are seeking an experienced Lean/Continuous Improvement Engineer to organize and lead cost reduction projects as assigned by the Continuous Improvement Engineering Manager. This role has no direct reports but drives team output. The engineer identifies and improves manufacturing and operational processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include analyzing data, metrics, and feedback to pinpoint areas for significant cost or lead-time reduction, improving product function, and integrating improvements into the business. The role involves evaluating processes, justifying improvements, and facilitating their integration into operations.
BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar engineering discipline is required.
10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 5+ years of documented Lean experience, as well as formal Lean principles training with Kaizen facilitation.
Certification of Six Sigma Black Belt and/or Lean certification is required.
Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to work jointly with CI Manager to establish priorities and then effectively manage time to complete multiple tasks within specified time frames.
Positive, can-do attitude and outlook to drive improvement.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment, including the ability to lead without authority.
Ability to apply problem solving techniques, with process management and facilitation skills.
Exhibits analytical skills in defect prevention, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
Ability to prepare and present data and processes to all audience levels.
Strong leadership skills - ability to work with and influence others in a heavy machinery manufacturing environment.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES
Team leader and facilitator of cross functional process teams as assigned to achieve cost savings and product function improvements.
Manage critical and highly visible projects from conception to implementation.
Lead and complete projects including Continuous Improvement Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, Design for Manufacturing and Should Cost Analysis.
Utilize Six Sigma, lean tools and techniques, or other methods to gather and analyze data, develop action plans and implement solutions to achieve cost savings and product function improvements.
Communicate in a professional, positive, courteous manner at all times with all levels of business
Develop and implement short-term and long-term corrective action plans to improve product and process quality, cycle time, productivity, and equipment downtime.
Help establish criteria for tracking and reporting value improvements.
Identify Process Changes and Work Instruction (WI) requirements, identify appropriate WI owner and facilitate WI generation.
Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operations.
Perform data analysis and create custom queries and reports.
Drive improvements of system data integrity.
Interact with Product Cost Management on accuracy and maintenance of cost standards.
Demonstrate product and process improvement using Six Sigma Black belt tools and various Lean techniques.
