Position Summary: The Innovation Engineer (Process Innovation Engineer) is responsible for identifying, designing, and implementing intelligent automation solutions that streamline and enhance business operations across the organization. This role focuses on solving complex process challenges by leveraging a combination of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation (RPA), custom-developed tools, data integration, and cloud-based platforms. The Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business needs, uncover inefficiencies, and deliver scalable, sustainable automation solutions. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical skills and a passion for innovation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process optimization and automation across business units. Design, develop, and implement end-to-end automation solutions using a range of technologies including AI, scripting languages, workflow engines, and cloud-based services. Build custom tools, dashboards, or integrations where off-the-shelf solutions are insufficient to meet business needs. Integrate intelligent components (e.g., natural language processing, machine learning, cognitive services) into process automation to enhance decision-making and efficiency. Maintain and optimize existing automation solutions to ensure continued performance, scalability, and alignment with business goals. Promote process standardization and documentation while supporting a culture of continuous improvement. Monitor and troubleshoot automation workflows and systems, ensuring high availability and performance. Provide technical expertise and training to team members and business users on automation tools and methodologies. Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in process automation, AI, and software development.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Experience in designing and implementing process automation solutions using multiple technologies, including but not limited to Microsoft platforms. Proficient in one or more programming/scripting languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell. Experience with AI/ML technologies, APIs, and platforms is highly desirable. Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP), data integration, and workflow orchestration tools. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate business problems into technical solutions. Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.
Competencies: Automation Strategy: Ability to assess business processes and recommend the most effective automation or optimization approach, regardless of platform. Tool Agnostic Development: Skilled in evaluating and applying the right tool or technology (AI, RPA, scripting, custom app development, etc.) to fit the business need. Process Improvement Mindset: Demonstrated capability to simplify, standardize, and automate inefficient business processes. Solution Architecture: Understanding of system architecture and integration patterns to develop scalable and maintainable automation solutions. Monitoring & Reliability: Experience ensuring the operational health of automation workflows and diagnosing/resolving failures quickly. Collaboration & Influence: Works effectively with IT, operations, and business teams to align automation initiatives with strategic objectives. Continuous Learning & Adaptability: Eagerness to stay up to date with emerging technologies and apply new tools/techniques where beneficial. Documentation & Training: Creates clear technical documentation and trains end users and team members on new tools and processes.
Travel: 0–25% Language Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills in English (Spanish is a plus). Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
