Fire Protection Engineer

Job Description
The Fire Protection Engineer will serve as the department's expert on fire protection, overseeing code compliance and document coordination. This role involves enforcing building codes, state laws, and regulations related to construction within the District, often making decisions with little precedent.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority on design and code issues related to occupant life safety, fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, smoke management systems, and passive fire protection features.
- Review engineering reports and performance-based designs for fire protection systems, including fire modeling assessments.
- Maintain and update the EPCOT Building Codes, incorporating changes and ensuring publication of updated standards.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, and proposals.
- Evaluate material testing data and submittals.
- Review product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and construction documents.
- Address comments related to building code compliance and assist in code interpretations.
- Coordinate and participate in Annual Emergency Power Tests.
- Assist with operations as needed to maintain workflow and meet schedules and quality requirements.
- Participate in meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and stay informed about new developments and policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Broad knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, techniques, and construction practices.
- Current knowledge of industry standards and design criteria pertinent to fire protection engineering.
- Proficiency in computer applications related to engineering and design, including AutoCAD, Revit, and SprinkCAD.
- Knowledge of fire and building codes and fire modeling techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering and five to seven years of relevant experience, or ten years of engineering experience with at least five years in fire protection engineering.
- NFPA Certification as a Fire Protection Specialist.
- Certification by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as a Building Plans Examiner, or the ability to obtain this certification within one year of hire.
This position is based in an office setting within Disney Parks. The role offers job stability and government perks, with a significant amount of work anticipated over the next five years.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
