This role is ideal for a seasoned technical leader who can not only solve the most challenging field issues but also mentor a team and drive excellence in service delivery.
Key Responsibilities: * Serve as the technical lead for complex installations, commissioning, and validation of new custom automation systems at client facilities, often overseeing junior engineers. * Provide expert-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution for critical mechanical, electrical, controls, and software failures. * Develop and implement proactive service strategies, including preventative maintenance schedules and system optimization plans. * Deliver advanced technical training and support to client personnel and internal teams, fostering knowledge transfer. * Act as a primary technical escalation point, managing critical client relationships and ensuring prompt issue resolution and high customer satisfaction. * Identify opportunities for system upgrades, enhancements, and service contract expansion. * Lead the continuous improvement of field service processes and documentation standards. * Manage travel logistics, schedules, and resources for service projects efficiently.
Recommended Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. * 7+ years of progressive experience as a Field Service Engineer, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity, specifically within custom automation, special machine building, or complex systems integration. * Expert-level proficiency in programming, configuring, and commissioning industrial PLCs (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff), HMIs, and industrial network protocols. * Mastery of industrial robotics (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots) including advanced programming, simulation, and integration with other systems. * Extensive experience with machine vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, Basler) for demanding applications. * Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, manage complex projects in the field, and mentor junior engineers. * Exceptional diagnostic, problem-solving, and analytical skills, capable of resolving novel and ambiguous technical challenges. * Superior communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for high-level client engagement and internal collaboration. * Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. * Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 75% or more) domestically and internationally, often with minimal notice.
Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree in Engineering or an MBA. * Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. * Experience with advanced laser applications, custom test equipment, or motion control systems. * Proven ability to pivot between strategic planning and hands-on technical execution. * Track record of successfully improving field service metrics or customer satisfaction scores.
