Position Summary :
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of building systems, infrastructure, and equipment across all company facilities. This role ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards while optimizing energy use, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The Facilities Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to manage capital projects, troubleshoot facility-related issues, and support strategic planning for site development and expansion. This position shall drive the vendor management life-cycle, which includes competitive bids, awards, purchasing, total cost of ownership analysis & fostering relationships for long-term stability.
Essential Responsibilities :
Lead facilities staff, which includes management of daily activities and work prioritization
Ensure facilities are compliant with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Monitor and maintain building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, security, etc.) across Modern’s campuses.
Manage preventative maintenance programs and troubleshoot system failures.
Plan & manage seasonal activities including but not limited to snow plow removal & lawn care services.
Plan, design, and implement facility infrastructure improvements, renovations, and expansions.
Oversee contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure high-quality project execution.
Support sustainability initiatives by identifying energy efficiency opportunities.
Develop and maintain facility documentation, including blueprints, O&M manuals, and equipment logs.
Analyze system performance and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response efforts.
Provide engineering support for space planning, relocations, and workplace safety enhancements.
Assists in the preparation of cost estimates for projects by conducting RFI/RFP & ROI activities.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related field.
3- 7 years of experience in facilities engineering or building systems management
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred by not required
Strong technical understanding of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
Working knowledge of building codes, OSHA standards, and environmental regulations
Proficiency in AutoCAD, CMMS software, and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent problem-solving, project management, and analytical skills
Strong interpersonal and communication abilities for cross-functional collaboration
Work is performed in both office and field environments.
May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical inspections in tight spaces or rooftops.
On-call support or extended hours may be required for emergencies or critical projects.
