Project Canary is a climate technology company offering an enterprise data platform that helps energy companies improve and report on their emissions footprint. Project Canary builds high-fidelity sensors, ingests data from various other technologies and sources, and leverages proprietary analytics and models to deliver insights that operators can act on to reduce emissions. The data-driven technology enables energy operators to stop leaks faster, reduce risk, streamline reporting, and differentiate their operations for key stakeholders.

The Environmental Engineer will join the Environmental Solutions team at Project Canary, serving as a subject matter expert on air compliance, greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting, and oil and gas operations and regulations. This role will engage both internally across teams within the organization and externally with customers to provide technical expertise and support. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on oil and gas air compliance, emissions, and regulatory frameworks, both internally and externally for our customers.  
  • Support the development and enhancement of Project Canary’s emission management software, including contributions to product strategy and client onboarding.  
  • Monitor evolving air quality and greenhouse gas regulations and analyze and communicate potential impacts on Project Canary’s products and customer operations.  
  • Assist with preparing and submitting technology approval documentation to the EPA and state regulatory agencies.   


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in air quality compliance and emissions management in the oil and gas industry.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical), Environmental Science or a related technical field.  
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations, including EPA’s GHGRP, NSPS OOOOa/b/c, and Colorado’s Regulation 7.  
  • Demonstrated experience developing emissions inventories for greenhouse gases and criteria pollutants. 
  • Proficiency in air permitting and compliance reporting at both state and federal levels.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.  

Preferred but not required: 
  • Experience managing projects and coordinating cross-functionally.  
  • Advanced degree in relevant technical discipline.  
  • Familiarity with emissions management software platforms and tools.  
  • Experience with voluntary methane and emissions reduction initiatives such as GTI Veritas, OGMP 2.0, and ONE Future.  
  • Proficiency with process simulation software such as ProMax.

  • Salary range: $125,000-145,000 annual base
