Build your experience with us! Our internship program is designed to introduce students to a career in the Design/Build construction industry. Primary responsibility is to assist a project manager to successfully coordinate a project using the necessary engineering, labor, equipment, materials, tools, and subcontracted services. This position requires the development of skills in design, estimating, construction process, workflow and scheduling to better understand the coordination of the design-build construction process. Candidates may be assigned to construction projects located in the Great Los Angeles Area and/or CA Central Coast areas.

What you'll do as a Project Engineer Intern:

  • Labor /budget tracking feedback
  • Equipment & Subcontractor procurement
  • Document Control
  • Design, Trade & Subcontractor coordination
  • Assist in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes & impacts, etc.
  • Assist in the development and management of project schedules.
  • Assist in estimating the impact of project changes.
  • Assist management of change orders.
  • Assist with assembling of submittal packages and other required project documentation.
  • Assists with procurement of equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other project related services.
  • Support construction team as needed.

About You:

You're pursuing a degree that aligns with Southland needs: Mechanical, Architectural, Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Safety Sciences, Other areas of interest Building Automation, Energy Management. You have an Interest in technical courses fluids, heat transfer, CM scheduling, finance, etc.

What you'll gain from our Student Programs at Southland Industries:

  • The ability to read engineering drawings and identify work installed to track labor feedback accurately.
  • Prepare job related logs to include RFIs, submittals, design changes, subcontractor progress/schedules.
  • You'll learn to communicate effectively with engineers, vendors and suppliers to procure, manage and update the submittal process.
  • Learn to write and track Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Gain an understanding of construction processes and workflow.
  • Finally, you'll get your hands dirty!

Pay: Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For (California) this starts at $26 per hour for internship program positions.
