As a Distribution Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
Designing engineering solutions for Leidos electric utility customers, while also undertaking individual design tasks and quality control efforts within your team.
Contributing to work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using customer GIS and Work Management systems.
Collaborating with fellow engineers and design leads on key client issues related to schedule adherence and quality control; managing the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
Reviewing engineering design packages with clients, executing planning tasks and following up with customers as needed.
Conducting scope analysis for assigned tasks, ensuring adherence to schedules to prioritize client needs.
Driving continuous improvement in workflow processes to enhance efficiency and uphold high-quality standards in client deliverables.
Coordinating with conflicting utilities and addressing field engineering requirements, which includes developing large design packages for complex projects in urban settings.
Being versatile and adaptable in both office and field settings, with occasional customer-site visits for data collection.
Being available for customer-facing interactions and meetings on an as-needed basis, with job-related travel reimbursed at IRS-approved rates.
What we need from you:
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company focused on design engineering for electric distribution.
BS in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree .
Strong background in the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
Familiarity with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, protective device coordination, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
Reliable transportation, as customer-related travel may be required (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience with cost estimation, BOM development, and CIAC calculation.
Proficient in MicroStation for Electrical Distribution design.
Knowledge of work management software and job estimating software.
Familiarity with CAD tools.
