Productive Resources(www.productiveresources.com)is seeking acandidateto be part of our engineering team at our customer's facility in Waukesha, WI. As a member of our team, the selected candidate will be an Electrical Engineer for our client and focus on electrical systems for engine-generator sets and accessory controls. Youll support design, testing, manufacturing, and field support for electrical systems on engines and genset controls.
This is a hands-on development role, requiring strong technical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a small team. The position is based in Waukesha, WI.
Duties: Create and update electrical designs, including wire harnesses, control panels, and related assemblies specific to engine-generator equipment. Produce one-line diagrams, load calculations, and complete BOMs using AutoCAD2D (or equivalent). Select and specify embedded control hardware and components, including ULapproved parts for control enclosures. Work with industrial communication protocols such as RS485, CANbus, Modbus (TCP/IP & RTU) for control systems and diagnostics. Troubleshoot field issues and support manufacturing/service technicians with wiring, control, and electrical queries. Lead or contribute to technical design reviews, ECN releases, and quality documentation. Collaborate across engineering, quality, supply chain, and service teams to optimize design for reliability and manufacturability. Ensure compliance with industry safety standardsNEC, IEC, IEEEas well as lockout/tagout (LOTO) and arc flash protocols. Assess new technologies such as IoT, cloudbased monitoring, and DC power systems (e.g. PV, battery backup) for integration into future designs.
Requirements: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field from an accredited school. 35+ years of experience in electrical system design for OEM equipment, power generation, control panels, or system integration. Experience with reciprocating engine control systems, especially enginegenerator set electronics and harness design. Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D schematic creation, wiring harness routing (e.g., using Creo or Pro/E), and BOM management. Strong understanding of industrial communication and embedded control hardware. Handson troubleshooting experience in manufacturing or field environments. Familiarity with electrical standards (NEC, IEC, IEEE), arc flash risk assessments, and LOTO safety protocols. Excellent problem-solving skills, proactive attitude, and organized project execution. Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills, including documentation and presentation capabilities.
