Job Title: Electrical Engineer Reports to: Principal Scientist
FLSA Status: Full-Time (Exempt) Department: Space Science
Position Objective:
Design, develop, test, and oversee the manufacturing of electrical and electro-optical systems, components, and related control system hardware to ensure they align with project specifications and safety standards. Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and staff to deliver efficient, reliable, and innovative solutions. Gain interdisciplinary skills by relating electrical engineering foundations with other skillsets including electro-optical design, astronomy, image processing, mechanical engineering, and additive manufacturing.
Essential Functions:
Create, explain and apply knowledge of electrical system designs and schematics, including power distribution, control systems, and circuit design
Develop and conduct tests to validate electrical systems and components, analyze test results, and implement improvements as needed
Assist in the development of electro-optical designs, devices, and control systems
Assist in modeling and simulation for electro-optical systems and components
Understand and apply first-principles methods to validate results
Manage electrical engineering projects from concept through implementation, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project requirements
Work closely with other engineers and project managers to integrate electrical systems with optical, mechanical, civil, and other engineering principles
Prepare detailed technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and manuals, to support engineering processes and maintain project records
Ensure all electrical systems and related components adhere to safety standards, codes, and regulations
Ensure accuracy and follow documentation procedures for all work; maintain notebook of daily activities and provide weekly report of work
Exhibit willingness to extend expertise into other scientific disciplines

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Field
Experience/proficiency with electrical design software AutoCAD, MATLAB, ETAP
Strong understanding of electrical systems, circuits, and power distribution
Ability to relate fundamentals of Electrical Engineering to secondary, interdisciplinary use-cases while working with other subject matter experts
Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations NEC, IEEE
Attention to detail and effective time and schedule management skills
Effective organizing, planning, debugging, and problem-solving skill
Ability to adapt within a small team to support evolving customer requirements
Ability to execute instructions and communication in written, oral, and diagram form
Strong writing, fact-gathering, and analytical skills
Basic computer and software skills including but not necessarily limited to Microsoft Office products (e.g., Outlook, Word, and Power Point)
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Specialization in Electro-Optics and Photonics, Optical Engineering, or other related field
Experience/proficiency in additional optical and mechanical design software such as Zemax, SolidWorks, etc.
College cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.5 or higher
Citizenship/Security Clearance Requirements:
U.S. Citizen
May be required to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance
