Electrical Engineer - Embedded Systems
New Today
Description: CLYNK, an upstart technology and information player in the recycling space, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the CLYNK team.
The successful candidate will work within multi-discipline project teams to design, implement, and validate embedded electrical systems that power our high-volume Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs). This individual will develop and support digital circuit designs, embedded controls, sensor integration, and low-level firmware for innovative products and systems used in redemption and recycling environments.
This role requires close collaboration with mechanical, manufacturing, and software teams to deliver end-to-end solutions from concept through deployment. You’ll support prototyping, field validation, and commissioning efforts, and be a key player in improving our existing platforms and enabling future technologies. Must be flexible for up to 25% travel across the Northeast (Maine, Connecticut, New York).
We are looking for a hands-on, self-starting engineer with a strong foundation in digital circuit design and embedded programming, and at least two years of practical experience.
As an Electrical Engineer, your work will directly shape how CLYNK processes, sorts, and tracks materials, helping to push the boundaries of redemption technology in support of a more sustainable future.
Requirements: Essential Functions
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and refine embedded electrical systems for new and existing recycling technologies
· Develop low-level firmware for microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ESP32, or similar), focusing on sensor control, I/O handling, and real-time responsiveness
· Design, simulate, and debug digital and mixed-signal circuits including power supply interfaces, communication buses (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN), and sensor integration
· Participate in prototype development and bench testing of electronic assemblies
· Work directly with operations and field teams to troubleshoot and improve deployed systems
· Contribute to the electrical design and system architecture for scalable, high-volume environments
· Maintain documentation, schematics, PCB layouts, and firmware versioning
· Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and fabricators
· Report directly to the Senior Director of Product Development
Qualifications and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering
· 2–4 years of experience in embedded systems or digital circuit design (Internship/Co-op time counts)
Essential Skills and Attributes
· Strong background in embedded programming (C/C++), including writing device drivers and real-time logic
· Hands-on experience with microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, AVR, etc.)
· Proficiency in circuit design and PCB layout tools (preferably Altium or KiCad)
· Experience managing external vendors for custom PCB assembly and manufacturing, including understanding DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFT (Design for Test) practices
· Ability to review and release manufacturing documentation packages (BOMs, fabrication and assembly drawings, etc.)
· Familiarity with debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-circuit debuggers
· Understanding communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, etc.
· Experience working in or supporting a production or manufacturing environment, including knowledge of product lifecycle and change control processes
· Ability to tackle multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Self-motivated and team-oriented
· Willingness to travel up to 25%, including visits to CLYNK HQ in South Portland, ME
Desirable Qualifications (Not Required)
· Experience with FreeRTOS or other RTOS platforms
· Experience integrating sensors (optical, proximity, motion, etc.) in embedded systems
· Exposure to Linux-based embedded systems or SBCs (e.g., Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone)
· Familiarity with revision control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD for firmware
· Experience with power distribution, battery charging, or power-efficient design
· Knowledge of UL/EMI design principles and testing
· Interest or experience in renewable energy, recycling, or sustainability tech
