The Director of Metallurgy and Engineering will be fully engaged with the leadership team, serving as a manager to fill staffing gaps and reach necessary staffing levels. This role involves collaborating to upgrade technical staff to meet current and future business needs, including retirement and exit planning. The director will assist technical teams in New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts and represent the company in business development activities, including customer visits as needed.
Education and Experience
B.S. or higher in Metallurgy from an accredited college or university required.
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Metallurgist/Materials Engineer.
Supervisory and team leadership skills are preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Strong background in report development and presentation of findings.
Excellent communication skills related to metallurgy and support topics.
Ability to work well with others in various environments.
Knowledge of physical and chemical metallurgy test procedures.
Familiarity with operation and maintenance of lab testing equipment.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Strong math, computer, and decision-making skills.
Experience with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Leadership experience in managing or leading teams is preferred.
Experience in Closed Die Forging, Aerospace, and Steel industries within forging is preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate research findings effectively.
Innovative, persistent, and detail-oriented.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the technical organization, including metallurgy and design engineering.
Refine policies and procedures to standardize and optimize operations.
Manage and direct technical staff.
Conduct analysis to identify and implement continuous improvement activities.
Represent the organization to customers, suppliers, and certifying agencies.
Conduct metallurgical investigations related to process control and product development.
Provide material recommendations for new product development to meet industry and customer requirements.
Organize and supervise failure analysis.
Write accurate technical reports on causes and corrective actions.
Handle dispositions of non-conformance issues.
Direct material and product analysis, including sample preparation and data analysis.
Collaborate with QA to conduct training and develop QA/QC processes.
Analyze production and material limitations, standardize manufacturing specifications.
Design or specify inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment.
Interface with other organizational functions.
Provide technical expertise on raw materials procurement and usage.
Qualifications Educational requirement: Bachelor's of Engineering (required).
