About the team You will work on the team that is responsible for the backend services that power grok.com. Our team is based in Palo Alto and San Francisco. We focus on writing highly scalable and reliable services that can efficiently process tens of thousands of queries per second. The entire backend stack is written in Rust. About the Role Join us in shaping the future of AI-powered products that touch the lives of hundreds of millions globally. We're seeking a curious, numbers-driven self-starter who thrives on uncovering insights and driving impact. You don't need prior AI experience—just a sharp mind and a passion for how AI can transform lives. As a Data Scientist at xAI, you'll be responsible for understanding data and metrics around our systems and users. You will shape product and research teams development by understanding how our AI products are impacting users and identifying new opportunities. You will partner with teams to prioritize what to build and set goals. An ideal candidate meets at least the following requirements: Expert knowledge of Python and SQL. Experience in modeling, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines and for high-volume user event data. Knowledge of large-scale data infrastructure and microservices architecture. Experience in operating commonly used databases such as PostgreSQL and BigQuery. Additionally, any of the below points will help a candidate stand out: Expert knowledge of statistical analysis and quantitative methods. Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Familiarity with modeling consumer behavior and system performance. Experience in partnering with product and research teams to define key metrics and events. Interview Process After submitting your application, the team reviews your CV and statement of exceptional work. If your application passes this stage, you will be invited to a 15 minute interview ("phone interview") during which a member of our team will ask some basic questions. If you clear the initial phone interview, you will enter the main process, which consists of 1 technical interview, 1 data modeling interview, and 1 project deep-dive interview: Practical coding assessment in a of your choice. Data modeling: Demonstrate a complete understanding of statistics and the scientific method. Project deep-dive: Present and answer questions about exceptional work that you've done. Meet and greet with the wider team. Our goal is to finish the main process within one week. Final interviews will be conducted in person.
