gWorks builds software that helps small local governments work better. Our clients are public servants city clerks, utility billing staff, public works teams, and county administrators who keep their communities running. Their work is essential, but often constrained by outdated tools.
We fix that. Our cloud-based platform replaces legacy systems with simple, integrated software built specifically for small governments. We serve thousands of communities nationwide, streamlining operations, improving service delivery, and making day-to-day work more manageable.
Were consolidating several acquired products into one platform and guiding our clients through this transition. Its complex, important work and we need a leader who can execute at a high level to help drive that transformation.
The Role:

This isnt about dashboards or analytics pipelines. Its about designing and operating cloud-native data pipelines that transform complex operational data from legacy systems into gWorks modern cloud products. This work is foundational to how we onboard clients, integrate acquisitions, and scale gWorks as a true platform company.
This role is part of a long-term investment in building reusable, scalable data infrastructure that reduces complexity, improves quality, and accelerates growth. Youll help lay the groundwork for a Platform team responsible for data pipelines, schema management, integrations, validation frameworks, and automation that serves all of gWorks products and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Build Next-Generation Data Pipelines
Design and implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, validate, transform, and load operational data from legacy on-prem systems into gWorks cloud-native products.
Define Platform Data Standards
Implement schema governance, validation rules, and reusable data models that power a consistent, reliable client experience.
Lead Cloud-Native Transformation
Build pipelines using AWS-native services like Step Functions, Lambda, S3, ECS, and Terraform fully serverless and cloud-native.
Power Scalable Client Onboarding
Develop tooling and automation that enables non-engineering teams to execute data migrations and system transitions reliably turning what was once a services-heavy process into a repeatable, productized workflow.
Embed Observability and Resilience
Build pipelines with automated logging, error handling, rollback paths, and monitoring ensuring reliability, auditability, and ease of use.
Help Build the Platform Team
Be a foundational member of a growing Platform engineering function. Help define engineering standards, operational processes, and a long-term technical vision that scales beyond any single migration or client.
What Youll Bring
5+ years of experience building AWS-native data infrastructure, using services like Step Functions, Lambda, S3, ECS, IAM, and Terraform.
Proven success designing and delivering complex ETL/ELT pipelines especially for operational product data, not just analytics or reporting.
Strong experience with Python and SQL for data transformation and pipeline development.
Expertise in schema design, data modeling, validation frameworks, and error handling at scale.
Familiarity with PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL), and experience bridging data models across systems.
Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred) and DevOps automation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills able to work closely with Product, Engineering, and client-facing teams.
A growth mindset curious, humble, and motivated to solve hard, high-impact problems.
What Success Looks Like
Production-grade data pipelines that power client onboarding and system transitions with minimal engineering touch.
Schema governance and validation frameworks that are standardized, reusable, and scalable.
Reliable data migrations with minimal downtime, low error rates, and full observability.
Non-engineering teams are empowered to execute data onboarding workflows without reliance on custom scripts.
Direct contributions to gWorks' long-term Platform strategy evolving from a product suite to a unified, integrated platform.
Why This Role Matters
This role is foundational to how gWorks grows enabling faster client onboarding, seamless system transitions, and the operational scale needed to support our vision.
