Job Tittle: Data Center Operations Engineer
Location: Sterling, VA
Duration: 12 Months plus
DataCentre Operations and hardware experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining company owned datacentre and its hardware on daily basis including all the duties associated, dealing with an extensive range of technologies.
Key responsibilities of the role include: * Building suites including cabinet installs, back-to-back cabling and equipment racking * Cabling current and new setups including copper patching, fibre patching * Installing new hardware such as switches, servers, storages, firewalls and routers * Diagnosing and repairing server hardware (in conjunction with the IT Service Desk team) * Monitoring the data centre environment including power usage, rack capacity, network ports and climate * Pro-actively checking for hardware alerts and single points of failure, thereby ensuring the data centre is running optimally * Assisting with Security implementation and deployment * Decommissioning old hardware: uncabling, removal from racks and organizing ecological disposal * Escorting and assisting 3rd party installers and adhering to Company Security policies * Managing spares for all data centres, ensuring a quick turnaround time on hardware repairs (SLA<2h) * Installing and troubleshooting of prefabricated fibre infrastructure * Updating rack documentation and adhering to other team admin tasks
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience: * A broad IT infrastructure and networking understanding * Proactive and positive approach * Proven track record in managing Data Centre operations * Strong organisational skills including SLA management * Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills * This is very much a hands-on role, and provides an excellent learning experience for candidates wanting to increase their knowledge of new hardware and data centre management. One thing all successful candidates have in common is a passion to use technology, new concepts and new ideas to solve complicated problems.
