GEICO's Cyber Security Engineering & Analytics (CSEA) team is seeking a Staff Engineer with strong software development expertise and deep cybersecurity experience. This role is ideal for an engineer passionate about building scalable, automated security solutions that reduce risk, improve posture, and increase cyber hygiene across a dynamic enterprise environment. You'll be a hands-on contributor working across engineering teams to deliver innovative security capabilities and automate controls, telemetry, and detection pipelines. We are looking for someone proficient in modern programming languages like Go and Python, and comfortable designing and developing systems that support Cybersecurity objectives. What You'll Do: Drive Security Automation: Build and evolve scalable solutions for automating security telemetry, detection pipelines, and control validation. Architect and Implement: Design robust systems and services focused on performance, reliability, and secure engineering practices. Lead Technical Strategy: Partner with engineering leadership to define and execute technical roadmaps that align with security objectives and business outcomes. Mentor and Collaborate: Provide deep technical mentorship to engineers across teams, and foster a collaborative environment grounded in security excellence. Advance DevSecOps Practices: Integrate with CI/CD pipelines, IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible), and modern observability platforms (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus). Innovate with Open Source: Leverage and contribute to open-source security frameworks and tools. Enhance Security Posture: Engineer improvements in identity, endpoint, cloud, and network security domains through automation and software craftsmanship. Champion Engineering Standards: Drive software engineering best practices for code quality, performance, testing, and documentation. What You Bring: Programming Mastery: Fluency in at least one modern language (e.g., Go, Python) with a strong portfolio of software built at scale. Security Engineering Expertise: Broad hands-on experience in security domains including endpoint protection, cloud security, identity, and threat detection. Architecture & Systems Thinking: Strong background in system design, data pipelines, and infrastructure at scale. Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP; familiarity with native security tooling. Cross-Platform Comfort: Experience developing in multi-OS environments (Linux, macOS, Windows). Tooling Knowledge: Deep familiarity with SIEMs, EDRs, vulnerability scanners, and other security stack components. CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code: Experience integrating security in software pipelines and deploying with tools like GitHub Actions, Terraform, or Ansible. Open-Source Orientation: Knowledge and usage of open-source security tools and frameworks. Collaboration & Influence: Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Team Enablement: Strong ability to communicate, collaborate, mentor, lead, and teach other engineers as needed to elevate team performance and knowledge sharing. Preferred Qualifications: 8+ years in security engineering, DevSecOps, or a related software development role 10+ years of professional software development experience 6+ years working in cloud-native environments 4+ years building with or integrating open-source tools Bachelor's degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent practical experience) Familiarity with machine learning or AI-based security solutions is a plus Experience working with audit and compliance teams is a bonus Annual Salary $115,000.00 - $230,000.00 The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
