Reporting to the Sr Manager, Calibration & Commercial Chassis, the Controls Engineer, Powertrain will collaborate with experienced engineers and designers to develop and refine innovative controls design solutions. You will utilize MATLAB/SIMULINK software and other engineering tools to create detailed control models, assist in prototype development, and contribute to design reviews. This position offers an excellent opportunity to use your skills while developing the future of the school bus products. In addition, you would be required to develop project deliverables including cost, timing, risks and issues and report out on key projects weekly. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop Controls/ Software that will meet Systems, and Functional expectations in the area of Powertrain
Control I/O devices including High side, Low side drivers’ devices. Resistive pull up sensors, and read Hall effect and VR type sensors
Understand and develop CAN based Controls by Integrating with (ESC, ABS, ADAS, other Systems) to create an integrated powertrain control system
Create controls models in MATLAB/ SIMULINK which can be generated into software which will drive decisions, and functions
Implement Torque Security and or Torque Arbitration to allow for multiple safety System interaction
Read & understand applicable FMVSS, State, and customer requirements
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations
Provide troubleshooting support while participating in design reviews and providing constructive feedback
Stay current with industry trends, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability
Drive best practices in powertrain engineering regarding vehicle function requirements and traceability
Perform other related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be System minded, and able to manage projects and assigned objectives to completion
Strong controls and problem-solving skills
Strong understanding on robust controls strategy (Avoid Under/Over damped controls; need to keep things simple but robust)
Excellent written and oral technical communication skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
Proven experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in engineering software/tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, SolidWorks, C+ or relevant software) BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED : Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an accredited university
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design engineering including 3 years in powertrain systems or software controls
