JOB OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for developing and maintaining project cost data for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with project scope and schedule, and integrating change management into cost tracking. The role includes milestone tracking, updating logic-driven schedules using Critical Path Methodology (CPM), performing cost analysis, and reporting on schedule deliverables. This strategic role is vital to the development, planning, and oversight of projects. The types of projects in our Commercial Division continue to be Hawaii’s most successful commercial projects that bring jobs to our state. Projects include hospitals, residential communities, and resort buildings throughout the islands. The Cost Engineer will be the primary support for our Commercial Division. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: Budget analysis and input. Forecast reporting. Field assistance and training. Management of cost data using construction cost management software. Claims data management. Assisting Division/Department management with project close-out. Additional duties as assigned. General: Thorough knowledge of HDC’s policies, practices, and standards in Cost Engineering, ensuring compliance within the assigned division. Cost: Strong knowledge of cost control methods and techniques gained through previous roles, with practical application within the assigned division. Industry: Familiarity with construction industry cost control procedures and standards. Engineering: In-depth knowledge of engineering disciplines to interpret drawings, specifications, and terminology for data integration into cost control formats. Claims: Assist with data research for claim negotiations and litigation. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years in construction and project management, particularly within various construction programs. Experience with large-scale construction projects, including residential, commercial, or infrastructure. Familiarity with project management software such as Procore, CMIC, or similar tools. Experience in construction cost forecasting, accrual reporting, application for payment reviews, and construction scheduling and planning. Proficiency in cost management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and Primavera P6. Experience in construction cost control processes. Proven ability to communicate financial status and schedule details from multiple construction sites to executive management.
