Position Purpose:
The Civil Engineer 1 will provide design and plan production for general civil design on a wide variety of municipal infrastructure projects which may include storm, sanitary, water, local roads, site plans, recreational facilities, and associated civil engineering activities. The civil engineer will perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Essential Functions: Perform engineering calculations in support of civil engineering design projects
Perform onsite construction observation or other field verification tasks as needed
Perform AutoCAD Civil 3D design/drafting in support of civil engineering design projects
Coordinate with necessary government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvals
Ability to identify engineering and surveying services needed by the client and the ability to draft proposals and estimate fees
Write and edit construction specifications and engineering reports
Tabulate bid items, calculate construction bid quantities, and construction costs from plan and specifications
Required Traits & Characteristics: Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines using discretion and judgment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, surveyors, architects, and technicians
Required Skills/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
Proficiency and hands-on experience with computer applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
Preferred Education/Experience: 0-5 years of experience in construction or civil engineering field
Successfully passed FE exam
Travel: Position based in Benton Harbor
Travel between offices for collaboration with team members and for project meetings as needed
Travel to job sites as needed
