Building Engineer
Responsible to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems for the assigned property(s). Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) maintaining a clean and safe working environment, performing rounds, conducting routine assessments, performance of day-to-day preventive and corrective maintenance, painting, and housekeeping for assigned properties.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Trade school or apprenticeship program preferred
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a commercial setting
Certifications & Licenses:
- Relevant trade licenses (e.g., Journeyman, Master Electrician, Boiler Operator)
- Universal EPA Section 608 certification (as required)
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (if applicable)
Skills:
- Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Experience with HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems, and energy management systems
- Strong knowledge of building systems operations and repair
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance across building systems.
- Maintain and repair heating equipment, chillers, DX units, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAVs, and air distribution systems.
- Monitor and adjust mechanical/pneumatic equipment, control gauges, valves, thermostats, and diffusers.
- Conduct field inspections and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Monitor and manage energy systems.
- Repair general building components (doors, ceilings, hand railings, floors).
- Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures (toilets, urinals, flush valves, sinks).
- Perform preventive maintenance per company standards and manufacturer guidelines.
- Inspect and maintain engine rooms, cooling towers, motors, pumps, generators, and fire safety equipment.
- Ensure emergency exits and signage are functioning and accessible.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and customer concerns.
- Document activities and report to supervisor.
- Follow all safety protocols and company policies.
- Maintain a professional appearance and comply with uniform standards.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Professional office and property settings; travel between properties may be required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., stoop, climb, crouch, and reach.
- Frequent movement between departments and floors.
