: Parsons is looking for an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer to join our team! In this role you will be responsible for to lead the design, development, and implementation of Building Automation Systems (BAS) for rail and transportation and other infrastructure projects. This role would be based in the Greater Toronto Area Region.
What You'll Be Doing:
Lead the design and specification of BAS systems
Ensure seamless integration with other building systems (Mechanical, electrical, fire alarm, security, energy management, SCADA)
Develop detailed BAS design documentation, including system architecture, layouts, equipment specifications, and control strategies.
Work with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure the BAS design aligns with timelines, budgets, and functional requirements.
Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers to select appropriate BAS hardware, software, and components
Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international building codes, regulations, and safety standards
Incorporate health and safety considerations into the design, addressing operational safety for occupants and maintenance personnel.
Perform site visits to assess existing systems and recommend upgrades or improvements
Develop and manage the BAS design budget, ensuring alignment with financial constraints
Monitor and track the design schedule to meet milestones and deliver on time
Provide regular progress updates to senior management, highlighting potential risks or delays
Conduct thorough design reviews to ensure technical soundness and adherence to quality standards.
Oversee the development of testing and commissioning procedures to ensure system functionality before handover
Manage the resolution of design-related issues to meet performance, reliability, and quality expectations
Serve as the primary point of contact for BAS design-related issues, ensuring effective communication between all parties
Secure necessary approvals and certifications for BAS systems during the design and implementation phases
Develop training materials and train building operators and facility management teams on BAS operations and maintenance
Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system manuals, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides
Stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and advancements in BAS, integrating innovative solutions
Lead initiatives to improve system performance, energy efficiency, and user experience
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems Engineering, or a related field.
Registration as a professional engineer in Ontario (PEO)
8+ years of experience in designing and implementing BAS for large-scale infrastructure or transit projects.
Previous experience on construction projects; knowledgeable in the construction contracting industry with emphasis in mechanical/electrical fields
Proficiency in BAS software and programming languages (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks)
Strong knowledge of BAS software, hardware, and systems integration (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric).
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, ISO, LEED, OBC, CSA).
Experience with energy management systems and sustainable building practices is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of Mechanical and Electrical systems, network wiring standards and protocols, BAS system installation and design, and multiple system integration strategies and applications.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders
