The Role:
The Automation Engineer will lead the execution of technically complex, high-impact automation projects across Keystone’s customer accounts. This hands-on role involves designing, assembling, and deploying automation systems, while also managing project scope, timelines, and deliverables. Reporting to the Director of Automation, the Automation Engineer is critical in advancing Keystone’s automation capabilities and driving customer success.
The Automation Engineer will lead the execution of technically complex, high-impact automation projects across Keystone’s customer accounts. This hands-on role involves designing, assembling, and deploying automation systems, while also managing project scope, timelines, and deliverables. Reporting to the Director of Automation, the Automation Engineer is critical in advancing Keystone’s automation capabilities and driving customer success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead automation projects from concept through delivery, including scope definition, execution, testing, and deployment
- Translate customer needs into project plans and scopes of work
- Design and build automation systems including control panels, sensors, communications, and remote telemetry
- Perform field and shop installations, retrofits, and commissioning
- Maintain documentation for system design, wiring diagrams, vendor specs, and BOMs
- Support cross-functional efforts with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, and Account Managers
- Drive standardization and innovation across builds and engineering processes
- Provide exceptional customer support and serve as the lead technical resource for assigned projects
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, systems integration, and technical project execution
- Expertise with process control instrumentation, control panels, field devices (pressure, flow, level), and telemetry (cellular, radio, satellite)
- Project management experience: scheduling, cost estimating, documentation, and communication
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; strong field presence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and project tracking systems
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites
- Physical capability to lift up to 70 lbs and work outdoors
- Oil & Gas, Water Transfer, or Environmental Monitoring experience
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial networking
- Familiarity with NetSuite, Smartsheet, or equivalent platforms
- BCSP certification or other industry-relevant credentials
- Organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in change management
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical writing
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines
- Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset

Schedule:
Full-Time | 12-hour shifts possible | Travel and overnight stays as required | 60% Office/Shop & 40% Field | Outdoor work in all weather conditions
