The Opportunity
Williams International has an exciting opportunity for a Automation Design Engineer to join our team. The Automation Design Engineer will lead the design and development of automation cells, ensure consistency through hardware standardization, and provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering team members on detailed design and best practices.
- Define automation cell requirements, define bill of materials, create 3D concepts, and complete detailed designs (NX design experience preferred).
- Maintain mechanical specifications for automation equipment and standard automation component library in engineering applications and applicable databases
- Perform engineering calculations for stress, load, motion, and tolerance analyses
- Design and develop custom mechanical components and assemblies for automated equipment
- Perform engineering calculations for stress, load, motion, and tolerance analyses
- Select appropriate mechanical components (bearings, actuators, fasteners, sensors, etc.) for automation applications
- Collaborate with automation team members to integrate mechanical designs with machining processes, electrical and control systems
- Support the build, testing, and troubleshooting of prototypes and production equipment
- Conduct design reviews and implement feedback from process, manufacturing, and operations personnel
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying design and process enhancements
- Advise, mentor and train engineers in mechanical design process for automation equipment
- Ensure all designs meet industry standards, safety regulations, and internal quality requirements
- Maintain up-to-date documentation and revision control for all projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 3 years of relevant experience with automation cell or machine design (preferably in automated environments).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (NX preferred).
- Thorough understanding of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, stack-up, material specification, and automation hardware.
- Experience in specifying, designing, and building automation cells for material handling, assembly, blending, and welding
- Experience with motion systems, pneumatics, conveyors, and mechanical actuators
- Strong knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, and mechanical tolerances
- Experience with robotic systems, servo motors, or vision systems
- CNC tool design or process development experience preferred
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office software tools
- An interest in gas turbine engine manufacturing
- U. S. citizenship is required
- Position requires the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Security Clearance, if needed. Candidates selected may be subject to a U. S.
