JOB OVERVIEW We are seeking an experienced Audio Mechanical Design Engineer in our Sunnyvale or Seattle labs. As part of the Acoustic Render (Speaker) Team (ART), you will have a significant impact on the architectural design and audio transducer integration of our acoustic custom speaker modules. Your role will contribute to the development of cutting-edge hardware devices that prioritize social interactions in both Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) settings. Joining the Acoustic Render (Speaker) Team, you will play a vital role in shaping the acoustic performance and mechanical design of advanced hardware devices that facilitate meaningful social interactions in AR and VR environments. This position requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, prototyping skills, CAD proficiency, and experience in designing consumer electronics. Responsibilities: Complex Micro-Plastic Mechanical Solutions: Lead the design of sophisticated micro-plastic mechanical solutions for audio microspeaker modules, leveraging insert molded steel plates and acoustic meshes to optimize speaker performance. Prototype Development and Validation: Model, construct, and test prototypes to validate and enhance the mechanical aspects and acoustic performance of the speaker modules. Establish test systems to conduct mechanical validations and use data-driven insights for continuous improvement. Full Product Development Cycle: Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product development cycle, from conceptualization to mass production, ensuring seamless integration of audio mechanical solutions. Collaboration with External Teams : Work with external teams, including Contract Manufacturers (CM), Joint Development Manufacturers (JDM), and vendors, to optimize internal resources and enhance product differentiation. Advancing Technological Solutions: Stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements and explore innovative approaches to address complex mechanical challenges related to audio transducer design and integration. Travel and Vendor Management: Occasionally travel to external vendors (up to 15%) to foster effective communication and collaboration, especially when working with vendors in Asian regions. Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. At least 4 years of relevant product design and development experience, with a focus on micro-speakers in high-volume consumer electronics. Proficiency in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, and 3D/2D CAD. Working knowledge of material properties, including plastics, metals, adhesives, and glass. Experience with testing and analysis techniques, such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and mold flow analysis. Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing techniques, such as stamping, machining, and injection molding. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree (MS) or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience with NX CAD software. Familiarity with products requiring cosmetic surface treatments and experience interfacing with industrial design teams. Experience with cross-functional communication and collaboration with vendors, especially in Asian regions.
