Role Overview This role offers an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to oversee electrical activities, provide technical guidance, and ensure statutory compliance across various flood & coastal risk management and Water, Land & Biodiversity assets. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with multiple construction and design partners, serving as the expert for the client. You will be a key member within the EA’s national network of senior engineers, contributing to national electrical assurance and safety initiatives.
Responsibilities
Provide design and technical advice ensuring compliance with electrical legislation, British and European standards, and EA’s codes of practice.
Deliver the role of Senior Appointed Person (High Voltage), requiring experience and training with high voltage equipment, assessed by the Environment Agency’s appointed engineer.
Contribute as part of the group of HV engineers across the EA.
Ensure the technical capability and competence of staff, identifying areas for development.
Assist in planning and delivering asset investments, including flood protection initiatives.
Participate in incident response roles, with full training provided, and be available for incident response, attracting additional payment.
Team and Location You will work within the MEICA Operations team for the South-East Supra Area, covering Hertfordshire, North London, Kent, South London, and East Sussex. The team oversees technical assurance for MEICA projects and asset maintenance.
Candidate Requirements
Full UK driving license.
Based in Welwyn Garden City or near Maidstone, working across London and the home counties.
Chartered or Incorporated electrical engineer, member of IET or I. Mech. E.
Qualified in the operation, maintenance, and safe management of high voltage equipment, with appointment as ‘Senior Appointed Person HV’ preferred.
Knowledge of electrical statutory legislation, standards, and safety regulations.
Experience with computerised maintenance management systems.
Experience managing electrical and instrumentation installations, including site work.
Ability to lead safety investigations and promote safety, innovation, and quality.
