About the Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF) The San José–Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF) is one of the largest advanced wastewater treatment facilities in the nation, serving over 1.4 million people from multiple cities and unincorporated areas within Santa Clara County. It treats water from homes and businesses, with a capacity of 167 million gallons per day. The Operations and Maintenance division manages daily activities related to the operation and maintenance of the facility. Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Division The RWF is part of one of the largest public works programs in San José, delivering a 10-year capital improvement program estimated at $1.4 billion, ensuring wastewater treatment services for 1.7 million residents and 17,000 businesses. The CIP division oversees planning and project delivery for the treatment process, including program administration and budget planning, supported by a team of consultants and staff from the Department of Public Works. The Environmental Services Department is seeking to fill two (2) full-time Wastewater Facility Principal Engineer positions, specifically in electrical engineering. The Principal Engineer provides expertise in electrical design, construction, and operations, participating in studies, standards, design criteria, equipment specs, technology selection, process control, operational strategies, and plans & specifications.
