TOWN ENGINEER -

Town of Ashland DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS is accepting applications for the position of Town Engineer. This position performs supervisory and engineering duties for the Town Public Works Department. Job duties involve planning, design, and layout for Town construction projects including drainage, stormwater management, and road projects; coordinating, reviewing and inspecting the work of subcontractors. Position oversees the stormwater management and other environmental programs for the town. Work also involves assigning, supervising and directing the work of subordinates. Position is responsible for estimating construction costs and preparing bid specifications.

This position is also responsible for resolving conflicts and complaints from citizens. Must exercise initiative and independent judgement in ensuring that necessary work is performed in a timely manner. Position must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with developers, contractors, and the general public.

This position assists the Director of Public Works and other department heads with various duties including site plan review and subdivision review. Reports to the Director of Public Works and in the absence of Director may assume responsibilities of the Department as directed.

This role offers a unique growth opportunity for the right candidate, beginning as Town Engineer and potentially advancing to Director of Public Works following the current Directors retirement. Applicants will be reviewed for qualifications, leadership ability, and aptitude with this in mind.

Requirements for this position include:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field and 4 to 7 years of experience in civil engineering, surveying or a related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

DEQ Dual Program Administrator by acquiring Stormwater Inspection and E & S Inspection Certifications within six months of start date.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Virginia.

The hiring range for this position is $91,184-$140,000 DOQ/DOE. The Town of Ashland offers an outstanding benefit package.
