Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Total DB Supra Support Engineer to maintain the stability, performance, and security of Total DB Supra (CA IDMS) database systems supporting mission-critical legacy applications.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in Supra environments, strong problem-solving abilities, and experience in mainframe and enterprise-level database support.
Key Responsibilities Provide Tier 2/3 support and administration for Total DB Supra environments, ensuring high availability and optimal performance. Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues including connectivity, performance, backups, recoveries, and data inconsistencies. Monitor database health, manage space, review system logs, and maintain statistics. Support data integrity, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans, including regular restore testing. Collaborate with application teams, system administrators, and developers on database design enhancements, upgrades, and patch management. Develop and implement automation scripts/tools using Shell (KSH, Bash), Python, or vendor utilities. Perform performance tuning and query optimization for Supra databases. Manage database security including access controls, roles, and permissions in line with corporate policies. Participate in capacity planning, change management, and compliance audits. Document operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and support knowledge base articles. Operate within a 24x7 support framework and participate in on-call rotations. Integrate Supra with other enterprise systems and collaborate with IT teams and vendors. Mentor junior DBAs and support teams on Supra database architecture and operations. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience supporting Total DB Supra (CA IDMS/CA-Supra) in production and test environments. Strong knowledge of network database models and Supra’s implementation of record relationships and data structures. Proficiency in mainframe and client-server environments, including legacy systems such as COBOL and PL/I. Experience in database backup and recovery, disaster recovery readiness, and routine maintenance. Expertise in performance tuning, capacity management, and query optimization. Scripting and automation experience using Shell (KSH, Bash), Python, or equivalent. Familiarity with database security best practices including RBAC and audit trail maintenance. Knowledge of enterprise monitoring and alerting tools for database health. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for incident management and root cause analysis. Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across technical teams. Willingness to work in a 24x7 support environment with flexible shifts and on-call rotations. Experience with version control, configuration management, and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy).
