Job Description
We are seeking a technically strong and motivated System Engineer to join a well-respected Nebraska based public power district focused solely on electric distribution. This role offers the opportunity to learn from a deeply experienced retiring engineer while building expertise across substations, voltage regulation, SCADA, metering, and load analysis. Ideal for a degreed electrical engineer with utility experience, you will play a key role in ensuring system reliability for a rural service area with heavy irrigation and oilfield loads.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct engineering system analysis including load flow, voltage drops, and modeling using Milsoft and WindMil
  • Oversee substation loading, transformer, and voltage regulator performance
  • Manage and enhance GIS, SCADA, and metering systems; collaborate with subcontractors as needed
  • Support Work Plan and ArcFlash studies; report to Board of Directors monthly
  • Assist with design, monitoring, and upgrade of RF metering systems, 2-way radio communications, and SCADA
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering highly preferred
  • 5+ years of electric utility or distribution engineering experience
  • PE license or ability to pursue PE is ideal
  • Strong knowledge of substation operations, voltage regulation, and engineering software
  • Valid Nebraska driver's license; relocation assistance available for qualified candidates

The base salary range for this position is $80,000–$120,000, excluding bonuses or other compensation. Your final salary will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
