Description Are you a talented Substation Design Engineer eager for a new challenge? This position offers remote work flexibility; however, candidates located in the greater Houston, TX area will be preferred to better serve our utility clients. As a Substation Design Engineer, you'll work within a seasoned Project Management Office (PMO) that provides consulting services to public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities, focusing on comprehensive engineering design for transmission, distribution, substation, and transmission line projects nationwide. Your Main Responsibilities: Develop and modify: Electrical layout and plans for substation equipment and structures Substation foundation layout and plans Section and elevation views from layout plans Conduit layout plans Substation grounding layout and plans Control building layout and section/elevation drawings
Prepare electrical schematics Complete electrical wiring design drawings Develop a comprehensive bill of materials for all required electrical equipment and materials Review and provide feedback on equipment drawings received from vendors and manufacturers Collaborate with other disciplines (e.g., Civil Engineers) to accomplish assigned tasks Assist in creating processes and procedures to enhance team performance Perform basic engineering calculations to support design efforts Apply relevant client, national, and state standards to each task as needed What Makes You Stand Out: Expertise in developing protection and control drawings, including schematics and wiring deliverables Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a related field is preferred 4+ years of direct experience in substation physical and electrical design using CAD software in electric utility projects Education combined with relevant demonstrated experience may be considered Strong proficiency in 2D and 3D design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor 3D Proficient in Windows-based software such as Word and Excel for project deliverables Quick learner, capable of effectively utilizing new design software Advanced skills in preparing engineering drawings with 2D and 3D applications Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and drafters Experience with EPC or design-build contract types Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work You Might Also Have: Experience with AutoCAD and other 3D applications At Leidos, we are proud to be a trusted solutions provider within the technology sector.
