Summary By joining BV Construction, you will develop and enhance your skills in an on-site, hands-on environment. Functions in our group include safety, project field management, construction management, quality control, start up and decommissioning, and field engineering. Verification that transmission substation equipment is commissioned in compliance with project contract and specification requirements, conforms to design operational feasibility, and is set up and tested per supplier requirements within the engineer's discipline capacity.
Key Responsibilities Set up equipment
Perform equipment calibration
Confirm device set points per design
Perform alarm checks to SCADA per substation commissioning packages
Load and test settings and programming in protection relays, RTU, RTAC
Perform required functional testing of equipment and systems
Verify equipment installation per design
Walk down substation for erection completion
Identify damaged or failed devices for replacements within completion schedule
Prepare testing and commissioning documentation
Assist and learn aspects of substation yard apparatus testing
Learn and implement safety protocols and procedures
Familiarity with substation schematic sets; navigate prints to find necessary drawings
Learn to operate a man-lift safely
Assist and learn aspects of DC function testing
Assist and learn secondary injection of currents and potentials
Learn to identify different equipment in substations
Adhere to safety and quality standards applicable to duties
Support continuous improvement efforts and change management related to improvements
Management Responsibilities Individual Contributor
Preferred Qualifications Some design experience preferred; Bachelor's of Engineering preferred
Preferred Skills: project instructions manual, contract documents, startup guidelines; division policies; supervisory, communications, planning, multi-tasking, problem solving, computer skills; knowledge of discipline technical principles related to power plants; knowledge of tools, equipment, and instruments used in performance of job duties; knowledge of internal engineering systems and tools
Minimum Qualifications No prior startup experience required
All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Certifications OSHA 10 Hour Training
Work Environment / Physical Demands Physical Demands: Lift up to 50 pounds; stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move and walk long distances; see and hear; full range of motion; operate hands to handle tools; repetitive movement; may work above 5 feet; climb and balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds; work up to 12 hour shifts in varying temperatures
Work Environment: Typical construction site; cramped spaces; hot/cold temperatures; exposure to dust, wind, snow, rain; bright or low lighting; hazardous equipment; safety sensitive position
