Structural Engineer for Self-Perform (Finance)
Compensation Range: $170,000.00 - $180,000.00 Annual Salary
Job Description Summary:
The Structural Engineer helps to successfully design and deliver projects for the Self Perform group as part of a wider team, aligning with project goals and the design intent from the Owner. Manage the design process, ensure timely and quality design deliverables, and help manage the Owner's expectations. Design Managers are responsible for creating a strategic design plan and executing it to ensure a successful design phase and transition to construction.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform all essential Assistant Preconstruction Manager/Lead Estimator responsibilities.
Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of the design process from initial concept to final design, coordinating with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
Assist in hiring, training, and developing team members and project teams.
Participate in proposal preparations, interviews, and client presentations.
Strategize with pursuit and preconstruction teams on design levels for pursuit pricing and ensure design solutions align with the approach.
Assist with selecting A/E teams, negotiating agreements and fees, and coordinating contract terms.
Develop RFPs for A/E, consultants, and trade partners.
Coordinate design services to eliminate overlaps and manage reviews.
Define, schedule, and monitor design deliverables, ensuring compliance with requirements and codes.
Conduct owner design reviews, obtain client approval, and facilitate communication between teams.
Manage design reviews, milestone submittals, and verify revisions.
Lead constructability reviews to address cost, procurement, and constructability issues.
Review design progress to prevent scope and cost creep.
Host value management sessions to optimize project budgets.
Coordinate BIM workflows and develop project-specific BIM plans.
Resolve design-related issues with subcontractors, including design-build and design-assist teams.
Facilitate communication on cost management and value analysis.
Develop and maintain relationships with clients and partners for future pursuits.
Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Structural Engineering Degree
7-10 years of field construction management experience
DBIA Certification (preferred)
Experience with design-build delivery, understanding of contracts and project management systems
Knowledge of green construction and sustainable materials
Proven ability in design-build project management
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, with experience in VDC and BIM software
Licensed Professional Engineer (Structural PE) in California
Drywall and Concrete Specifics:
Details on steel framing, shop drawings, load-bearing systems, and concrete design, including specific responsibilities and qualifications for each.
