Staff Software Engineer (DevOps)

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer specializing in DevOps to lead and scale our infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and operational systems. This is a senior technical leadership role that will define our DevOps strategy, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, and drive operational excellence across our platform. The role reports directly to the VP of Engineering and involves regular collaboration with distributed cross-functional teams.Work SettingThis position is a full-time hybrid role with onsite presence as per the schedule proposed by the manager. The role is available in our San Francisco, New York, or Illinois locations, and candidates should expect regular in-person collaboration. Occasional travel (up to 15%) may be required for customer site visits, offsites, or relevant industry events.ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement scalable, secure, and compliant cloud infrastructure architectureBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and monitoringEstablish infrastructure-as-code and automation frameworks using Terraform or AnsibleLead cloud security and compliance efforts, including HIPAA and HITECH adherenceMonitor performance and reliability, and implement observability solutionsDrive usage analytics and performance optimization for core cloud servicesMentor engineering teams on DevOps practices and toolsLead incident response and post-mortem processesDefine technical strategy for infrastructure, automation, and resilienceRequired QualificationsBachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in DevOps-focused rolesDeep hands-on experience with AWS services and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)Proficiency in container orchestration, CI/CD practices (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions), and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell)Strong understanding of networking, cloud security, healthcare compliance (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH), and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, CloudWatch)Demonstrated leadership in mentoring, cross-functional collaboration, and operational excellencePreferred QualificationsExperience with incident management, root cause analysis, and production supportExposure to cost optimization strategies and healthcare-specific infrastructure needsFamiliarity with database administration, backup, and recovery best practicesTrack record of influencing engineering culture and driving infrastructure change at scaleCompensationTotal compensation for this role is expected to fall within the range of $150,000 to $190,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and alignment with the responsibilities outlined.
