POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision, this position performs field and office civil engineering work related to the planning, design, construction and maintenance of City projects and programs. This position will assist with the design of roadway, water, and sewer projects, updating the City's Geographic Information System (GIS), and perform field inspections as needed. Reports to the Engineering Manager & Public Work Director. JOB FUNCTIONS Staff Engineer / Designer · Prepares project plans and proposals for various infrastructure projects using computer-aided design or drawing tools under the supervision of the City's licensed engineers. · Prepares estimates of cost and time for various projects. · Reviews contractor bids; interviews and assigns personnel to specific phases and elements of the project. Through project coordination meetings and other forms of communication, oversees and coordinates the technical aspects of the project. · Prepares status reports and regularly monitors budgets, contractors and schedules. Allocates project resources appropriately; approves expenditures. Keeps an accurate record and electronic database of all elements of the projects. · Develops and maintains GIS databases and maps; performs GIS analysis functions and modeling; reads and interprets source documents such as, engineering plans, plat maps, and legal descriptions. · Presents procedures, rules and regulations to those involved in the project; maintains a safe, clean and productive environment through enforcing procedures. Maintains project integrity and reputation through compliance with state and federal regulations. · Other project and construction engineering duties as may be assigned. REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION Bachelor degree in civil engineering with emphasis in Municipal, Transportation or Environmental Engineering or an associate degree with a minimum of two (2) years of municipal related infrastructure design or construction observation experience or a technical degree with at least 5 years of work experience.
EXPERIENCE 0 to 10 years of experience in civil engineering, construction experience and/or surveying.
LICENSES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification (preferred) Professional Engineer (PE) certification (preferred) Valid State of Illinois driver's license
