About the role:

We're looking for a Staff Data Engineer to lead the engineers on the Health Intelligence team in building robust, scalable data pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure. This role reports to the Manager of Data Engineering.

This is a hybrid role and will require up to 3 days in Garner's New York City office.

What you will do:
  • Design and maintain robust data systems that generate Garner's provider rankings with high accuracy
  • Develop and optimize algorithms to enhance provider ranking precision while reducing costs and resource use
  • Collaborate with engineers company-wide to establish and enforce coding standards, reusable libraries, and shared tools
  • Work closely with Data Science, Research, and Product teams to translate research concepts into reliable, high-performance production systems
  • Lead the team's technical strategy to build scalable, maintainable, and resilient software solutions
  • Foster team growth by mentoring junior engineers and continuously elevating engineering excellence
Technologies we use:What you will bring to the team:
  • 7+ years of experience working in the software engineering industry, with at least 3+ years focused on a Data Engineering function
  • Experienced in leading Data Engineering efforts, driving complex big data solutions
  • Expert in Python and SQL for data transformation and analysis
  • Has experience building ETL/ELT pipelines (e.g. Spark, Beam, AWS Glue)
  • Proficiency working in cloud environments (preference for AWS with Kubernetes)
  • Background in managing pipeline workflows with tools such as Airflow, Argo, & Prefect
  • Experience working with Data Lake Table formats and Data Governance tools (Apache Iceberg, AWS Lake Formation, Hudi, etc.).
  • Proficiency using analytics platforms like Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or Trino for large-scale data processing and analysis
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools preferred (Tableau, Looker, etc.)
  • Preferred experience in environments with strict data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and strong security best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in dynamic, fast-paced startup environments, with a hands-on approach and a strong commitment to organizational success

Compensation Transparency:

The target salary range for this position is: $220,000- $260,000. This position is also bonus eligible. Individual compensation for this role will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible to participate in our equity incentive and competitive benefits plans, including but not limited to: flexible PTO, Medical/Dental/Vision plan options, 401(k), Teladoc Health and more.
