Key Responsibilities:
Systems Administration & Support: Perform advanced support and troubleshooting for IBM AIX and enterprise Linux systems.
Manage LPAR configurations and troubleshoot HMC-managed Power Systems .
Maintain high availability, performance, and reliability of customer environments.
Participate in an on-call rotation for escalated support outside normal business hours. Patch Management, Security & Recovery: Plan and implement OS patches, firmware updates, and security hardening.
Manage and test backup/restore and disaster recovery procedures.
Conduct regular vulnerability scans and coordinate remediation efforts. Containers & Virtualization: Support deployment and management of containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes .
Work with Linux-based VMs and virtualization technologies (KVM, VMware, PowerVM). Monitoring & Documentation: Proactively monitor system health and respond to incidents. Maintain detailed documentation (procedures, configurations, diagrams, runbooks). Log and track time spent on tasks accurately for billing and workload visibility. Team Collaboration & Customer Interaction: Act as an L3 escalation point for junior engineers. Collaborate with internal teams and communicate directly with customers as needed. Provide root cause analysis, status reports, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Requirements: Experience: 8-10+ years of IBM AIX systems administration (vios, lpar, nim, hmc). 10+ years supporting Linux environments (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or SUSE). Experience with HMC/LPAR troubleshooting . Familiarity with on-call operations and support ticket workflows. Technical Skills: Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Korn, etc.) and automation tools (Ansible, Python). Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, storage (SAN/NAS), and backup tools. Experience with Kubernetes (highly desired) and Docker or similar container platforms (preferred). Experience in multi-tenant or MSP-style environments is a plus. Soft Skills: Self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently in a remote setting. Strong time management and documentation discipline. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Team-oriented, with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Preferred Certifications: IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) CompTIA Security+ or equivalent Work Environment: Remote position with occasional travel (10–15%) for client or team meetings. Participation in a rotating on-call schedule. Must have access to reliable high-speed internet and secure working environment.
