Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer (IV or V)
Reports To: Director of Camera Systems
Job Type: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt
Overview :
SIONYX designs and manufactures night vision camera systems based on our own groundbreaking ultra-low light imaging sensors. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a key contributor of our product design team and lead the electronics development for SIONYX’s current and future camera systems.
The Electrical Engineer position requires an expert in PCB design with a deep understanding of how the hardware interacts with the rest of the system. They work closely with the neighboring engineering disciplines, namely mechanical and software engineering. This individual must have experience in low noise, low power, battery operated power supply design, microprocessor design and layout of high-speed bus interfaces, testing and passing regulatory testing for FCC and CE. This individual also must have a strong background working with suppliers and contract manufacturers, ensuring schedule and quality throughout the supply chain. You must be able to lead and perform all aspects of integration and verification of the design in and through mass production. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and flow down system requirements
Schematic capture, layout, BOM management
Manage supply chain and contract manufacturers
Perform integration, test and verification and regulatory qualification
Support handoff to operations and product support throughout its life cycle
Create and manage budgets and schedules
Create and manage part and component libraries
Communicate proposals and project status both internally and externally as needed
Assist with recruitment, training, and onboarding.
Ensure a safe, positive work environment.
Skills and qualifications:
PCB Design must haves:
Understanding how the hardware and software interacts with the rest of the system
Experience in low noise, low power, battery operated power supply design
Design of high-speed bus interfaces such as processor to DDR5, MIPI, USB, HDMI, Ethernet, etc
Experience testing and passing regulatory testing for FCC and CE
Thermal management
Expert in Cadence or Altium
Understanding of supply chain challenges and management
Personal Skills
Work well with internal and external team members
Ability to manage a project and team members both internally and externally
Detail oriented
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
Strong technical communication skills
Strong collaboration skills and assertiveness to help influence key decisions
Excellent motivational skills and multitasking abilities
Other Helpful Experience:
FPGA development; to support current and future developments.
Software development experience; to aid in integration.
Education and Experience:
In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of relevant experience may suffice
7+ years’ experience in relevant hardware systems (camera systems preferred), including system architecture and circuit design
Location:
Strong preference to be collocated with our product development team in Santa Barbara, CA. We have worked with remote designers in the past successfully, but product integration tasks are never as efficient as sitting together in the lab. So hybrid can work half time remote.
