Equipment / Mechanical Engineer – Ingredient Manufacturing | western Indiana

We are seeking a Mechanical / Equipment Engineer to play a critical role at our western Indiana facility, where your expertise will drive mechanical reliability, regulatory compliance, and process safety across plant operations.

About the Role

In this hands-on engineering position, you will be responsible for leading capital projects ranging from $50,000 to over $1 million, managing key safety analyses such as Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and providing technical leadership on pressure vessel integrity, tank repairs, and PSM (Process Safety Management) systems. You will work closely with operations and EHS teams to ensure adherence to OSHA, ASME, NFPA, PSM, and EPA Risk Management Program regulations, supporting the overall safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee capital improvement projects ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance

  • Conduct and manage comprehensive hazard analyses to identify and mitigate risks

  • Provide expert technical guidance on regulatory interpretation and plant safety systems

  • Support Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR) to ensure safe plant operations

  • Deliver training and participate in audits, investigations, and safety system evaluations

  • Foster a culture of safety and operational excellence through collaboration and proactive problem-solving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (preferred)

  • Proven experience with chemical process safety and combustible dust environments

  • Familiarity with corn wet milling or a similar processing industry is highly desirable

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards including OSHA, NFPA, ASME, PSM, and EPA RMP

  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering compliance, safety audits, and continuous improvement efforts

  • Effective communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage complex projects
