Job Summary:
MSI is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer & FEA Specialist to lead the design, development, and analysis of complex mechanical systems for defense and vehicle applications. This role is responsible for concept development, CAD modeling (using PTC Creo), structural FEA, BOM creation, and drawing package development using MSI's parametric skeleton strategy. The engineer will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure all design efforts meet technical, schedule, and manufacturing requirements, while supporting process improvement and mentoring junior engineers.
The ideal candidate has strong expertise in mechanical design and simulation, particularly in automotive or defense vehicle systems, and experience managing the full design lifecycle-from concept through production. This position requires on-site presence and active engagement with project managers, production teams, and suppliers to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead mechanical design and FEA analysis of vehicle systems and components.
Develop parametric CAD models and manage design intent using Creo 7.0.
Support early-phase concept development and system feasibility.
Generate complete BOMs, technical drawings, and design documentation.
Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to support prototyping and manufacturing.
Guide FEA strategy and manage third-party FEA vendors as needed.
Participate in technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and project scheduling.
Provide leadership in design best practices and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering field.
8+ years of experience in defense, automotive, or motorsports industries.
Strong experience in Creo (3+ years), FEA, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
Experience with Windchill or similar PDM systems preferred.
Knowledge of fabrication, prototyping, and machining practices.
Must meet ITAR requirements and be eligible for security clearance if required.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
