Software Engineer, Data Platform Metronome is the leading usage-based billing platform built for modern software companies. With Metronome, companies can launch products faster, offer any pricing model, and streamline finance workflows without writing code. Our platform computes millions of invoices per billing period and is scaling rapidly to accommodate new customers, saving them hours of development time and manual invoicing, and enabling them to use consumption data to better serve their customers. Our customers love our product and approach, and we're humbled to work with amazing companies like OpenAI, Databricks, NVIDIA, Confluent, and Anthropic. You'll be joining an experienced team that includes founders who have successfully built and sold startups before. Our founders and employees also have direct experience building and scaling teams through massive growth at companies like Dropbox, Clever, and New Relic. We have raised over $128M from leading investors including NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Elad Gil, and Workday Ventures. We're also proud to have founders and executives of companies like Segment, Plaid, Looker, Gitlab, Confluent, HashiCorp, and Snowflake, as investors who have experienced the pain we're solving firsthand. About the Role The Data Platform team is responsible for aggregating all of Metronome's data and providing offline data computation in near real-time and batch. Our Data Platform powers internal use-cases and critical products, including Data Export to customers' data warehouses, in-app analytics, reporting, and internal analytics. Reliability & Data Integrity: Ensuring accuracy for financial workflows used for books close, reconciliation, and compliance. Performance & Latency: Aggregating and exposing usage data quickly for forecasting, overage prevention, and pricing adjustments. Partnering with product engineering to enable data-powered features like in-app dashboards, revenue forecasting models, and custom reporting. What You'll Do Build batch and streaming pipelines processing hundreds of thousands of events per second and generating millions of records. Create capabilities and pathways for engineers to build features on our large data warehouse in a self-service manner. Develop tools and interfaces for non-technical users to make business decisions using Metronome's data. Shape the architecture of Metronome, guiding the use of batch, streaming, and real-time compute technologies like Spark, Clickhouse, and Dagster. Hands-on experience with distributed systems performance, reliability, and fault tolerance, either as a senior contributor or technical lead. Ownership of mission-critical production systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and incident response. Strong collaboration skills across engineering, product, and infrastructure teams. Proven success in high-growth, fast-paced environments, managing scope and delivering quality outcomes. Experience mentoring engineers and fostering growth through code reviews and technical leadership.
