The Opportunity Abbott Molecular is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer at our Des Plaines, IL location within the Quality Assurance organization. We are looking for a self-motivated engineer to provide technical support for on-market molecular diagnostics instruments. This role will support the Elevated Complaints Investigation team and contribute to projects and complete assignments that impact design, fabrication and manufacturing of complex instrument subassemblies, systems and processes.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. Applies engineering and risk management principles in the design or improvement of instrument subassemblies, systems or processes. Work closely with Technical Service, Supplier Quality, and CAPA teams in identifying potential product deficiencies and ensure timely closure of elevated customer complaints. Provide preventive maintenance and service support for in-house instruments. Support Management Review and Metrics/KPI programs. Leads individual or team projects. Develops project plans and timelines. Reviews project progress and evaluate results.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. Has demonstrated competency within a discipline. Possesses a strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. • Works on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators. Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations. Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment. Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences. Has demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control.
Preferred Qualifications A post-graduate education or advanced degree is preferred and may contribute toward meeting the desired years of experience. Experience working in a regulated environment. Hands-on experience in laboratory experimentation, including the use of scientific instruments and data analysis. Strong technical background with familiarity in regulatory requirements across healthcare, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or related industries. Experience in mechanical, materials, biomedical, and/or electrical engineering applications. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and applications. The base pay for this position is $75,300.00 – $150,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
