Senior System Engineer (Level 2 or 3) Onsite (Colorado Springs, CO)

An organization is seeking a highly experienced Senior System Engineer (SE) with 10+ years of experience to support the Sentinel program (formerly called the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent - GBSD). This is a 100% onsite position at a contractor facility in North Colorado Springs, CO. Remote or hybrid options are not available. The standard work schedule is a 9/80, allowing employees to work nine-hour days and enjoy a three-day weekend every other week.

The candidate will join a development team and contribute to the engineering design of the nations next-generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system. The program supports the Air Forces sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and system modifications for the ICBM Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:

As a System Engineer, you will be assigned to an Agile Scrum Team supporting the Command & Launch (C&L) segment of the Sentinel program and the Command and Control (C2) Software Team. You will support system engineering activities associated with capability buildup for the Sentinel Flight Test Campaign.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Technical Leadership: Assist in managing the C2 technical software requirements baseline, ensuring alignment with program goals.

  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor C2 Software Team members in agile software requirements development.

  • Execution and Collaboration: Drive technical execution to support major program events, collaborating across program segments.

  • Systems Challenges: Address high-level system challenges and support execution of the technical plan within the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).

  • Strategic Initiatives: Support initiatives on tools, processes, and cross-segment technical reviews.

  • Perform requirements analysis, generate verification activities, and ensure supplier/internal products meet design requirements.

  • Interface with subject matter experts, analysts, architects, designers, system engineers, and specialty engineers to capture Sentinel Node structure and behavior in SysML/UML frameworks.

  • Apply engineering principles to design components and systems using applicable standards and specifications.

  • Develop technical content for stakeholder presentations and maintain design documentation.

  • Support MBSE strategy and implementation, as well as requirement decomposition, derivation, and traceability.

WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science, Information Systems, or related STEM discipline.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience on projects of similar scope or complexity.

  • US citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance (with investigation date within 6 years).

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

  • Experience supporting software development in C++, Python, Bash, and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) environments.

  • Experience with MBSE, DOORS, and/or Cameo.

WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:
  • Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and structured software development environments.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and processes (e.g., GitLab, GitHub, Azure, Jenkins, Nexus).

  • Familiarity with automated testing techniques, including unit and integration testing.

  • Experience with USAF Nuclear Surety standards (DO-178C, AFMAN 91-119, DO-330, etc.).

  • Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA/Confluence).

  • Familiarity with Software Safety (Mil-STD-882E).

  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
