Senior Structural Engineer

Develop and review engineering and related documentation to ensure compliance with legal and other regulatory requirements. Specific tasks include Load development plans, gravity load design, lateral load design and reviewing residential designs for structural code compliance. Seal and/or approve as required, which requires a current Engineering license (PE or SE). Maintain assigned portion of the project schedule and record accurate hours worked on each project. Collaborate with Architectural Project Coordinators to maintain adherence to project schedules. Collaborate with other team members regarding project components to support project completion and low idle time. Deliver high-level expertise related to guidelines, standards, and best practices. Participate in discussions, provide recommendations, and develop solutions with Homebuilding, Manufacturing, Procurement, and other NVR department personnel as needed, including conversations ranging from addressing field repairs to clarifying appropriate construction methods to inspectors. Consult with experts in different areas including structural and mechanical engineers, architects, estimating analysts, building code officials, truss engineers, and IT to ensure documents are complete and accurate. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Licensed with an active Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) license in at least one state. Experience with structural design software (ie. iStruct, Digital Canal, Tekla Tedds). Design experience with residential homebuilding and light wood framed construction. 6+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years as a PE. Proficient with spreadsheet and database tools as well as MS Office products. 1+ years’ experience with AutoCAD. Ability to read and interpret construction documents. High level of attention to detail as well as strong organizational, planning and time management skills. Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, with strong communication skills. Experience planning and organizing the activities of others with demonstrated skill in follow-up and control. Experience leading, mentoring, and/or coaching junior team members preferred.
