Job Summary

: In this role as Senior Structural Engineer, you will support the structural design for the project. This will entail originating/checking complex structural calculations, specifications, material requisitions, and technical studies or reports. Additionally, checking of design drawings and review and coordination of vendor information and leading technical discussions and constructability reviews.

Part-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.

SB1 Major Responsibilities:

Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, material requisitions.

Review and coordinate technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.

Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.

Manage specifically assigned project activities.

Assist in constructability reviews.

Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports.

Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate engineers and designers.

Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables.

Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum: Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now and in the future.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)

Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns-including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries - are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.

Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures

Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.

Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or SAP 2000.

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.

Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client. Preferred: Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software.

Thorough knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4-98, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.
