Job Description: The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the structural, thermal, and safety-critical aspects of mechanical design projects. This role involves the full product lifecycle from concept through qualification and production, including analysis, documentation, and cross-functional coordination. Responsibilities: Review and interpret specifications to determine structural, thermal, and safety-critical considerations for mechanical designs. Prepare material and labor cost estimates for proposed designs. Design systems and components according to specified requirements. Produce professional technical documentation including 2D drawings from 3D models, reports, analyses, XX papers, and procedures. Collaborate with supporting engineering disciplines throughout the product lifecycle. Ensure adherence to project budgets and schedules for assigned tasks. Conduct mechanical design and analysis including thermal and structural evaluation and packaging of electrical components. Coordinate and guide design team efforts, review mechanical drawings, and provide direction on details. Support manufacturing, build, and qualification testing; perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implement design improvements. Review and approve project documentation and manage design changes using PLM systems. Interface with customers, vendors, and production teams to develop requirements and solutions. Requirement/Must Have: 4+ years of experience using 3D CAD software tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD. 2+ years of experience working with military and/or industry specifications for design, testing, materials, and processes. 2+ years of experience with Commercial/Navy/Military environmental qualification standards. Should Have: Experience with power distribution switchboards or similar low/medium-voltage/high-power equipment. Experience with structural analysis software such as ANSYS Workbench or equivalent, including static, dynamic, and modal analysis. Proficiency in designing shock and vibration mitigation for electrical enclosures. Ability to lead design teams and independently execute tasks on time and within budget. Experience with additive manufacturing materials and techniques. Strong technical writing skills with experience creating design reports and test procedures. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Qualification And Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 3 years of relevant experience, or In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
